Asylum applications and refugees from Afghanistan
125,483 people from Afghanistan fled in 2021 and applied for asylum in other countries, according to UNHCR data. This corresponds to approximately 0.313% of all residents. The most common destination countries have been Germany, Turkey and France. The most successful have been the refugees in Spain and Malaysia.A total of 465 people fled to the United States from Afghanistan. With 156 positive decisions, 82.54 percent of all new applications have been accepted. Another 33 applications were rejected, and no decisions were made on those remaining in 2021.
