Bosnia and Herzegovina is not only a country from which many people escape. There are also refugees from other countries, who apply for asylum here and hope for a better future. Only in the year 2018 there have been 1,547 asylum applications from refugees of other countries. The most successful have been the refugees from Russia and from Algeria.

National migrant stock from 1990 to 2015

In 2015 a total of 34,803 migrants lived in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These are all residents who live permanently in the country but were born in another country. The amount includes granted refugees but no asylum seekers. The data are based on the results of censuses, as well as on estimates and projections of the United Nations Population Division.
