Refugees in Uganda

57,235 asylum applications by refugees were received in 2017 in Uganda - according to UNHCR. Most of them came from the Congo, Somalia and from Burundi. A total of 66,247 decisions have been made on initial applications. Which were around 89\% answered positively. 11 percent of asylum applications have been rejected in the first instance. Most successful have been the applications of refugees from South Sudan and from the Congo.

Asylum applications of foreign refugees in Uganda

The total number of initial and continuing applications refers to the year 2017. Please note that the number of decisions (acceptations or rejections) does not have to sum up with the number of applications, because there may still have been open cases from previous years. Also they dont have to be closed within the same calendar year. In addition, asylum procedures can also be closed, if the applicant disappeared or withdrew the application.

Asylum applications of refugees from Uganda

Uganda is one of the countries, were refugees are not only migratiing in. Only in the year 2017 there have been 3,019 asylum applications, which were received for citizens from Uganda in other countries. Most successful have been the applications in Kenya and in Italy.

National migrant stock from 1980 to 2015

In 2015 a total of 749,471 migrants lived in Uganda. These are all residents who live permanently in the country but were born in another country. The amount includes granted refugees but no asylum seekers. The data are based on the results of censuses, as well as on estimates and projections of the United Nations Population Division.
