Asylum applications and refugees from Georgia

13,000 people from Georgia fled in 2021 and applied for asylum in other countries, according to UNHCR data. This corresponds to approximately 0.351% of all residents. The most common destination countries have been France, Germany and Italy. Overall, 97 percent of the asylum applications have been rejected. The most successful have been the refugees in Russia and Canada.

A total of 192 people fled to the United States from Georgia. With 19 positive decisions, 23.46 percent of all new applications have been accepted. Another 62 applications were rejected, and no decisions were made on those remaining in 2021.

Georgia is not only a country from which many people escape. There are also refugees from other countries, who apply for asylum here and hope for a better future. In the year 2021, there have been 688 asylum applications from refugees of other countries. The most successful have been the refugees from Lebanon and from persons with unknown origin.
