183,745 people from Iraq have fled in 2016 and applied for asylum in other countries. This corresponds to approximately 0.494% of all residents. The most destination countries hereof have been Germany, Turkey and Jordan. The most successful have been the refugees in Jordan and in Egypt.

A total of 96,116 people from Iraq fled to Germany. With a total of 36,149 positive decisions 71.98 percent of all applications have been accepted.

Asylum applications of foreign refugees in Iraq

Iraq is not only a country from which many people escape. There are also refugees from other countries, who apply for asylum here and hope for a better future. Only in the year 2016 there have been 4,195 asylum applications from refugees of other countries. The most successful have been the refugees of unknown and from Iran.

National migrant stock from 1980 to 2015

In 2015 a total of 353,881 migrants lived in Iraq. These are all residents who live permanently in the country but were born in another country. The amount includes granted refugees but no asylum seekers. The data are based on the results of censuses, as well as on estimates and projections of the United Nations Population Division.
