61,203 people from Iran have fled in 2016 and applied for asylum in other countries. This corresponds to approximately 0.076% of all residents. The most destination countries hereof have been Germany, Turkey and the United Kingdom. The most successful have been the refugees in Denmark and in the United States.

A total of 26,426 people from Iran fled to Germany. With a total of 5,288 positive decisions 58.83 percent of all applications have been accepted.

The total number of initial and continuing applications refers to the year 2016. Please note that the number of decisions (acceptations or rejections) does not have to sum up with the number of applications, because there may still have been open cases from previous years. Asylum applications of foreign refugees in Iran

Iran is not only a country from which many people escape. There are also refugees from other countries, who apply for asylum here and hope for a better future. Only in the year 2016 there have been 85 asylum applications from refugees of other countries.

National migrant stock from 1980 to 2015

In 2015 a total of 2,726,420 migrants lived in Iran. These are all residents who live permanently in the country but were born in another country. The amount includes granted refugees but no asylum seekers. The data are based on the results of censuses, as well as on estimates and projections of the United Nations Population Division.
