Asylum applications and refugees in Estonia

35 asylum applications by refugees were received in 2020 in Estonia - according to UNHCR. Most of them came from Russia, Syria and from Eritrea. A total of 60 decisions have been made on initial applications. Which were around 40% answered positively. 60 percent of asylum applications have been rejected in the first instance. Most successful have been the applications of refugees from Syria and from Turkey.

In 2015 a total of 202,348 migrants lived in Estonia. These are all residents who live permanently in the country but were born in another country. The amount includes granted refugees but no asylum seekers. The data are based on the results of censuses, as well as on estimates and projections of the United Nations Population Division.
