Refugees from the Congo

2,792 people from the Congo have fled in 2017 and applied for asylum in other countries. This corresponds to approximately 0.053\% of all residents. The most destination countries hereof have been France, United States and Spain. Overall, 78 percent of the asylum applications have been rejected. The most successful have been the refugees in Uganda and in Austria.

A total of 55 people from the Congo fled to Germany. With a total of 22 positive decisions 23.40 percent of all applications have been accepted.

Asylum applications of foreign refugees in the Republic of the Congo

The Republic of the Congo is not only a country from which many people escape. There are also refugees from other countries, who apply for asylum here and hope for a better future. Only in the year 2017 there have been 1,985 asylum applications from refugees of other countries. The most successful have been the refugees from Central Africa and from the Congo.

National migrant stock from 1980 to 2015

In 2015 a total of 392,996 migrants lived in the Republic of the Congo. These are all residents who live permanently in the country but were born in another country. The amount includes granted refugees but no asylum seekers. The data are based on the results of censuses, as well as on estimates and projections of the United Nations Population Division.
