21,592 people from Burma have fled in 2017 and applied for asylum in other countries. This corresponds to approximately 0.040% of all residents. The most destination countries hereof have been Malaysia, India and Japan. The most successful have been the refugees in Nepal and in Indonesia.

A total of 113 people from Burma fled to Germany. With a total of 137 positive decisions 74.86 percent of all applications have been accepted.

National migrant stock from 1980 to 2015

In 2015 a total of 73,308 migrants lived in Burma. These are all residents who live permanently in the country but were born in another country. The amount includes granted refugees but no asylum seekers. The data are based on the results of censuses, as well as on estimates and projections of the United Nations Population Division.
