Azerbaijanian is the official language in Azerbaijan and is spoken in 4 other countries as monther tongue by a part of the population. The Azerbaijanian language (native name: azərbaycan dili) has its roots in the Turkic language family.

With 12.57 million native speakers, Azerbaijanian has the highest prevalence in Iran. As a percentage of the total population, the largest share of around 93 percent is in Azerbaijan. A total of about 23.0 million people worldwide speak Azerbaijanian as their mother tongue.
