Telecommunication in LatviaCompared to the European Union, Latvia has a slight downturn in the development of telecommunications. Under the country code +371, there were a total of 2.26 million connections in 2020. Among them were 2.05 million mobile phones, which corresponds to an average of 1.1 per person. In the EU, this figure is 1.2 mobile phones per person.
In the expansion of broadband Internet connections, Latvia is back. Around 89% of all residents have access to the Internet. Approximately 26% have their own fast Internet connection, which is at least faster than the previous ISDN (more than 2048 kbit/s).
With about 359,604 webhosts, Latvia is below the world's average by population. At the end of 2020, 38,634 million of these, or about 11 percent, were secured with SSL or comparable encryption.
