Sunrise and sunset in Azerbaijan

Sunrise today: 7:58 h
Sunset today: 17:41 h
(Times for Baku)

The times of sunrise and sunset in Azerbaijan are influenced by the country's moderate northern position in the hemisphere. Not as extreme as in the United States, but still noticeable. The days in summer are long and in winter short. With up to approximately 15:10 hours the longest days are in June. On the other hand the longest dark nights happen in winter (in the southern hemisphere it is the other way around). In December a night in Baku last almost 15 hours.

In these days the sun in Baku rises at 7:58. The early sunset at 17:41 makes the day currently a bit too short.

Where does the sun rise in Azerbaijan?

The sun always rises in the east, everywhere and regardless of the country or continent. The easternmost city in Azerbaijan is Pirallahi in rayon Baki. There, the sun rises at 7:57 am and sets at 5:39 pm these days. The latest sunset is currently experienced in the west in the city of Sedarak (Nakhichevan) at 6:03 pm.

Duration of the sunset

The distance from the equator and the path of the sun determines not only the time of sunrise and sunset. The farther a country is from the equator, the more oblique the sun's path is to the horizon. And this causes a different duration that a sunset takes. Baku lies on the 40th degree of northern latitude and is therefore quite far away from the equator. While a sunset near the equator only lasts about 20 minutes, in Azerbaijan this period averages 32 minutes. In June, it's about 33 minutes in Baku, while in December it's 31 minutes.
