Telecommunication in the BahamasCompared to the European Union, Bahamas has a slight downturn in the development of telecommunications. Under the country code +1809, there were a total of 516,636 connections in 2020. Among them were 425,507 mobile phones, which corresponds to an average of 1.1 per person. In the EU, this figure is 1.2 mobile phones per person.
In the expansion of broadband Internet connections, Bahamas is back. Around 85% of all residents have access to the Internet. Approximately 21% have their own fast Internet connection, which is at least faster than the previous ISDN (more than 2048 kbit/s).
With about 20,661 webhosts, Bahamas is below the world's average by population. At the end of 2020, 496 million of these, or about 2 percent, were secured with SSL or comparable encryption.

Development of telephone and internet connectionsWith an average download speed of 61.75 Mbit/second for fixed-network broadband internet, Bahamas ranked 73rd in an international comparison. The upload rate of only 22.37 Mbit/second was significantly lower (94th place). The quality of the Internet, consisting of signal fluctuations (jitter) and latency, is very far ahead at 25th place.
In mobile internet, i.e. on tablets and smartphones, Bahamas come th with a download speed of 0 Mbit/second. The upload speed of around 0 Mbit was enough for th place.
The "Speedtest Global Index" published regularly by Ookla is based on several million individual measurements in September 2021 from 181 countries.
