The days in summer are long and in winter short. With up to approximately 15:40 hours the longest days are in June. On the other hand the longest dark nights happen in winter (in the southern hemisphere it is the other way around). In December a night in Belgrade last almost 16 hours.

Where does the sun rise in Serbia?

The sun always rises in the east, everywhere and regardless of the country or continent. The easternmost city in Serbia is Pirot in the region of Central Serbia. There, the sun rises at 6:48 am and sets at 4:36 pm these days. The latest sunset is currently experienced in the west in the city of Kolut at 4:43 pm.

Duration of the sunset

The distance from the equator and the path of the sun determines not only the time of sunrise and sunset. The farther a country is from the equator, the more oblique the sun's path is to the horizon. And this causes a different duration that a sunset takes. Belgrade lies on the 45th degree of northern latitude and is therefore quite far away from the equator. While a sunset near the equator only lasts about 20 minutes, in Serbia this period averages 35 minutes. In June, it's about 37 minutes in Belgrade, while in December it's 34 minutes.
