With this result Greece ranks 58th. So, compared to other countries it is slightly below average.Compared to the previous year, in 2021 the level of corruption slightly raised. In the long term, it has nevertheless declined moderately in recent years.
The United States are in 27th place with a score of 33. The ranking is led by New Zealand with a value of 12. The sad last place is occupied by South Sudan (89 points).

Development of corruption in Greece 2003 - 2021
The causes of corruption lie in part in political and cultural reasons. Ineffective law enforcement may further promote it. It is striking that it is regularly lower in democratically governed countries (form of government in Greece: Parliamentary republic). Similarly, higher corruption occurs predominantly in low-income countries. In Greece, per capita income is 17,950 US$ annually, which puts it in the middle of the global comparison. The above-average cost of living also indicates a comparatively prosperous country.
