Telecommunication in Tajikistan

Compared to the United States, Tajikistan is massively lagging behind in the development of telecommunications. Under the country code +992, there were a total of 12.09 million connections in 2020. Among them were 11.58 million mobile phones, which corresponds to an average of 1.2 per person. In the US, , this figure is 1.1 mobile phones per person.

With about 6,258 webhosts, Tajikistan is below the world's average by population. At the end of 2020, 880 million of these, or about 14 percent, were secured with SSL or comparable encryption.

Development of telephone and internet connections

With an average download speed of 27.26 Mbit/second for fixed-network broadband internet, Tajikistan ranked 108th in an international comparison. The upload rate was 30.02 Mbit/second (53rd place).
In mobile internet, i.e. on tablets and smartphones, Tajikistan comes 135th with a download speed of 8.1 Mbit/second. The upload speed of around 4 Mbit was only enough for 136th place.
