Sunrise and sunset on the Maldives

Sunrise today: 5:52 h
Sunset today: 18:15 h
(Times for Malé)

Sunrise and sunset on the Maldives do not differ significantly throughout the year. The reason for this is the proximity to the equator. Thus, the sun swings north in the middle of the year and south at the turn of the year, without moving too far away. In countries like Canada or Norway, however, the difference is much more extreme.

With up to approximately 12:20 hours the longest days happen to be in June. In December a night in Malé lasts almost 13 hours.

During these days, the sun in Malé rises at 5:52. The Sunset can currently be watched at about 18:15 in the early evening.

Duration of the sunset

The distance from the equator and the path of the sun determines not only the time of sunrise and sunset. The farther a country is from the equator, the more oblique the sun's path is to the horizon, causing sunset to last for a different duration. Malé lies on the 4th degree of northern latitude and thus very close to the equator. While a sunset in the northern USA or central Europe can take almost an hour, on the Maldives, it lasts only an average of 24 minutes. The Maldives is so close to the equator that there is no noticeable difference even between June and December.
