From 1960 to 2016 the population of Lithuania increased from 2.78 million to 2.87 million people. This is a growth by 3.4 percent in 56 years. The highest increase Lithuania was recorded in 1961 with 1.62%. The biggest decrease in 2011 with -2.23%.

Birth- and deathrate in Lithuania

Population growth is the result of the birth rate, the mortality rate and the migration rate. The example of the year 2015 in the graph: The population in Lithuania decreased by about -27,460 inhabitants. In the same year, the death rate was 14.4 per 1000 people (~ 42,200 deaths) and the birth rate was 10.8 per 1000 people (~ 31,700 births). As a result, around 16,960 inhabitants have migrated to other countries.
