Population growth is the result of the birth rate, the mortality rate and the migration rate. The example of the year 2017 in the graph: The population in Sint Maarten increased by about 610 inhabitants. In the same year, the death rate was 4.2 per 1000 people (~ 170 deaths) and the birth rate was 9.0 per 1000 people (~ 360 births). As a result, around 420 inhabitants have to be added by migration from other countries.The development of births and deaths is displayed in the following graph.
