Geography

Sint Maarten is a peninsula in the southern part of the Caribbean island, on which also the French part "Saint Martin" is located. The dwarf state has a total area of only 34 km² (13 mi²) and a total coastline of 59 km (36.7 mi). This land area is about 1.0 times the size of Manhattan. This makes Saint Martin the second smallest country in the Americas after Saint Barthelemy and the tenth smallest worldwide. With 1,260 inhabitants per km², it is also the most densely populated country in the Americas.

There are 7 other islands in the country. St. Martin ist the only directly neighboring country of Sint Maarten. The distance between New York City and the Capital Philipsburg is about 2,730 km (1,696 mi).

The climate in Sint Maarten

In Sint Maarten, as in all equatorial countries, there is a tropical climate. Unlike in Europe or the USA, there is almost no difference between the seasons. The daylight hours vary little, and the temperature differences between summer and winter are also lower. Depending on the season, the average daytime temperatures range between 29 and 32 degrees. In the colder months, the average night temperatures drop down to 23 °C.
