Sunrise and sunset on the Falkland Islands

Sunrise today: 8:52 h
Sunset today: 16:49 h
(Times for Stanley)

The times for sunrise and sunset on the Falkland Islands are significantly influenced by the low position in the southern hemisphere. Far to the south, the days are short in summer (December to March) and long in winter (June to September). In the northern hemisphere it is exactly the opposite. With up to about 16:40 hours, there are the longest days in December. The longest dark nights, on the other hand, are in June. Then the night in Stanley lasts almost 17 hours and the days start about 4 hours later.

Who wants to look at the sunrise during these days, can take it easy. Late by 8:52 the sun rises in Stanley. The early sunset at 16:49 makes the day currently a bit too short.

Duration of the sunset

The distance from the equator and the path of the sun determines not only the time of sunrise and sunset. The farther a country is from the equator, the more oblique the sun's path is to the horizon, causing sunset to last for a different duration. Stanley lies on the 52nd degree of southern latitude and is therefore very far away from the equator. While a sunset near the equator lasts only about 20 minutes, on the Falkland Islands, this period averages 51 minutes. In June, it's about 41 minutes in Stanley, while in December it's 60 minutes.
