Geography

The Federated States of Micronesia are an archipelago in the western Pacific. The dwarf state has a total area of only 700 km² (270 mi²) and a total coastline of 6,112 km (3,797.8 mi). This land area is about 4.0 times the size of Washington, D.C. Micronesia is thus the tenth biggest country in Oceania and in terms of area ranked 195th worldwide. A considerable share of the inhabitants (77%) belongs to the rural population.

The highest elevation in the country (Dolohmwar) is 791 meters. The archipelago consists of 607 partially uninhabited islands. The Federated States of Micronesia have no direct neighbors.

The climate in the Federated States of Micronesia

In the Federated States of Micronesia, as in all equatorial countries, there is a tropical climate. Unlike in Europe or the USA, there is almost no difference between the seasons. The daylight hours vary little, and the temperature differences between summer and winter are also lower. Depending on the season, the average daytime temperatures range between 30 and 31 degrees. In some parts of the country, the temperature rises to 32 °C. In the colder months, and depending in the region, the temperature drops to 25 °C in a month's average.
