Latvian speaking countries

Latvian is the official language in Latvia and is spoken on the Åland Islands as monther tongue by a part of the population. The Latvian language (native name: latviešu valoda) has its roots in the Indo-European language family.

As a percentage of the total population, the largest share of around 56 percent is in Latvia. A total of about 1.1 million people worldwide speak Latvian as their mother tongue.
