Afar is no official language in any country, but is spoken as a mother tongue in three countries by a minor part of the population.With 2.04 million native speakers, Afar has the highest prevalence in Ethiopia. As a percentage of the total population, the largest share of around 32 percent is in Djibouti. A total of about 2.5 million people worldwide speak Afar as their mother tongue.
