Geography
Slovenia is a country in southern Europe with only very narrow access to the Adriatic coast. The land has a total area of 20,675 km² (7,983 mi²) and a total coastline of 47 km (29.2 mi). This land area is approximately 82% of the area of Maryland. Slovenia is thus one of the smallest countries in Europe by area and ranked 155th worldwide. More than half of all residents (55%) live within cities. Around one in nine residents lives in Ljubljana alone.Slovenia is comparatively low at an average elevation of 492 meters above sea level. The highest mountain peak (Triglav) is at 2,863 meters. There are direct national borders with the four neighboring countries Austria, Croatia, Italy and Hungary. The distance between New York City and the Capital Ljubljana is about 6,800 km (4,225 mi).

The climate in Slovenia
A moderate climate zone determines the weather in Slovenia. As usual in the northern hemisphere, the days in the summer months are not only warmer but also longer. Depending on the season, the average daytime temperatures range between 5 and 29 degrees. In some parts of the country, the temperature rises to 30 °C.
