Geography
Slovakia is a landlocked country at the northern Carpathians and south of the Polish border. The land has a total area of 49,030 km² (18,931 mi²). This land area is approximately 195% of the area of Maryland. Slovakia is thus the 25th smallest country in Europe and ranked 131st in the world. More than half of all residents (54%) live within cities.Slovakia is comparatively low at an average elevation of 458 meters above sea level. The highest mountain peak (Gerlachovský štít) is at 2,655 meters. There is no access to the open sea. There are direct national borders with the five neighboring countries Austria, Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Ukraine. The distance between New York City and the Capital Bratislava is about 6,850 km (4,256 mi).

The climate in Slovakia
A moderate climate zone determines the weather in Slovakia. As usual in the northern hemisphere, the days in the summer months are not only warmer but also longer. Depending on the season, the average daytime temperatures range between 1 and 26 degrees. In some parts of the country, the temperature rises to 29 °C.
