Compared to the United States, Russia is at the forefront of the development of telecommunications. Under the country code +7, there were a total of 272.46 million connections in 2021. Among them were 246.57 million mobile phones, which corresponds to an average of 1.7 per person. In the US, this figure is 1.1 mobile phones per person.With about 14.87 million webhosts, Russia is below the world's average by population. At the end of 2020, 1.92 million of these, or about 13 percent, were secured with SSL or comparable encryption.

Development of telephone and internet connections
With an average download speed of 77.77 Mbit/second for fixed-network broadband internet, Russia ranks 53rd in an international comparison. The upload rate was 83.62 Mbit/second (24th place).In mobile internet, i.e., on tablets and smartphones, Russia comes 92nd with a download speed of 22.88 Mbit/second. The upload speed of around 8 Mbit was only enough for 110th place.
