Development of inflation rates in Romania
The inflation rate for consumer prices in Romania moved over the past 28 years between -1.5% and 255.2%. For 2019, an inflation rate of 3.8% was calculated.
During the observation period from 1991 to 2019, the average inflation rate was 48.4%
per year. Overall, the price increase was 529,126.45 %. An item that cost 100 Leu in 1991 was so charged 529,226.45 Leu in the beginning of 2020.
In only a few countries negative inflation rates are achieved. This means that the general price level is declining and consumer prices get cheaper. This case is called deflation.In comparison to other countries, the drastic price increases are no longer on average. Usually this is a sign of political and economic turmoil.Back to overview: Romania
