Geography
Liechtenstein is a landlocked country in the Eastern Alps of Central Europe. The dwarf state has a total area of only 161 km² (62 mi²). This land area is about 0.9 times the size of Washington, D.C. Liechtenstein is thus one of the smallest countries in Europe by area and ranked 222nd worldwide.The highest mountain peak (Grauspitz) is at 2,599 meters. There is no access to the open sea. There are direct national borders with the two neighboring countries Austria and Switzerland. The distance between New York City and the Capital Vaduz is about 6,410 km (3,983 mi).
