The "Corruption Perceptions Index" for the public sector showed 61 points in the Kosovo for 2021. The scale has a range from 0 to 100, in which corruption raises, the higher the number is. With this result the Kosovo ranks 86th. So, compared to other countries it is slightly below average.Compared to the previous year, in 2021 the level of corruption decreased a bit. In the long term, it has also declined moderately in recent years.
The United States are in 27th place with a score of 33. The ranking is led by New Zealand with a value of 12. The sad last place is occupied by South Sudan (89 points).

Development of corruption in the Kosovo 2010 - 2021
The causes of corruption lie in part in political and cultural reasons. Ineffective law enforcement may further promote it. It is striking that it is regularly lower in democratically governed countries (form of government in the Kosovo: Parliamentary republic). Similarly, higher corruption occurs predominantly in low-income countries. In the Kosovo, per capita income is 4,440 US$ annually, which is extremely low by global standards. The cost of living is well below the global average, indicating massive socioeconomic problems.
