Geography

The Heard Island and McDonald Islands are a group of islands in the south of the Indian Ocean, about 3800 km from the Australian mainland. The dwarf state has a total area of only 372 km² (144 mi²) and a total coastline of 102 km (63.4 mi). This land area is about 2.1 times the size of Washington, D.C.

The highest mountain peak (Mawson Peak) is at 2,745 meters. The island group consists of 5 islands. The Heard Island and McDonald Islands have no direct neighbors.
