Sunrise today: 5:44 h
Sunset today: 17:39 h
(Times for Riyadh)

Sunrise and sunset times in Saudi Arabia are determined by the moderate location in the northern hemisphere. Not as extreme as in the Nordic countries, but still noticeable. The days are longer in summer (June to September) than in winter (December to March). With up to about 13:40 hours, there are the longest days in June. The longest dark nights, on the other hand, are in winter. In the southern hemisphere it is the other way round. In December, the night in Riyadh lasts almost 14 hours and the days start about 60 minutes later.

In these days the sun in Riyadh rises at 5:44. The early sunset at 17:39 makes the day currently a bit too short.

Where does the sun rise in Saudi Arabia?

The sun always rises in the east, everywhere and regardless of the country or continent. The easternmost city in Saudi Arabia is Khobar in the region of Eastern Province. There, the sun rises at 5:31 am and sets at 5:25 pm these days. The latest sunset is currently experienced in the west in the city of Duba (Mintaqat Tabuk) at 6:22 pm.

Duration of the sunset

The distance from the equator and the path of the sun determines not only the time of sunrise and sunset. The farther a country is from the equator, the more oblique the sun's path is to the horizon. And this causes a different duration that a sunset takes. Riyadh lies on the 25th degree of northern latitude and is therefore quite far away from the equator. While a sunset near the equator only lasts about 20 minutes, in Saudi Arabia this period averages 27 minutes. In June, it's about 28 minutes in Riyadh, while in December it's 26 minutes.
