Geography

Pakistan is a country between the Himalayas and the Arabian Gulf. The land has a total area of 796,100 km² (307,376 mi²) and a total coastline of 1,046 km (650.0 mi). This land area is approximately 114% of the area of Texas. Pakistan is thus one of the largest countries in Asia and the 35th biggest in the world. Most of the population (63%) resides within rural regions.

Pakistan is comparatively high at an average elevation of 900 meters above sea level. The highest mountain peak (K2) is at 8,611 meters. The country has about 100 islands. There are direct national borders with the four neighboring countries Afghanistan, China, India and Iran. The distance between New York City and the Capital Islamabad is about 11,090 km (6,891 mi).

The climate in Pakistan

The climate in Pakistan is subtropical, so it is much drier and warmer than in the most parts of the US or Central Europe. Only in a few humid months per year is the intensity of rain a bit higher. Depending on the season, the average daytime temperatures range between 20 and 39 degrees. In some parts of the country, the temperature rises to 42 °C. In the colder months, and depending in the region, the temperature drops to 6 °C in a month's average.
