Telecommunication in Honduras

Compared to the United States, Honduras is massively lagging behind in the development of telecommunications. Under the country code +504, there were a total of 8.03 million connections in 2021. Among them were 7.56 million mobile phones, which corresponds to an average of 0.74 per person. In the US, this figure is 1.1 mobile phones per person.

With about 30,955 webhosts, Honduras is below the world's average by population. At the end of 2020, 985 of these, or about 3 percent, were secured with SSL or comparable encryption.

With an average download speed of 29.43 Mbit/second for fixed-network broadband internet, Honduras ranks 107th in an international comparison. The upload rate of only 7.4 Mbit/second was significantly lower (139th place).
In mobile internet, i.e., on tablets and smartphones, Honduras comes 79th with a download speed of 24.06 Mbit/second. The upload speed of around 11 Mbit was enough for 64th place.
