Geography

The Cayman Islands are an island state south of Cuba in the Caribbean. The dwarf state has a total area of only 264 km² (102 mi²) and a total coastline of 160 km (99.4 mi). This land area is about 1.5 times the size of Washington, D.C. The Cayman Islands are thus one of the smallest countries in the Americas by area and ranked 214th worldwide.

Besides the main island, 2 other smaller islands belong to the country. The Cayman Islands have no direct neighbors. The distance between New York City and the Capital George Town is about 2,490 km (1,547 mi).

The climate on the Cayman Islands

On the Cayman Islands, as in all equatorial countries, there is a tropical climate. Unlike in Europe or the USA, there is almost no difference between the seasons. The daylight hours vary little, and the temperature differences between summer and winter are also lower. Depending on the season, the average daytime temperatures range between 29 and 32 degrees. In the colder months, the average night temperatures drop down to 23 °C.
