The scale has a range from 0 to 100, in which corruption raises, the higher the number is. With this result Belize ranks 110th. So, compared to other countries it is considerably below the average.
Compared to the previous year, in 2008 the level of corruption slightly raised. In the long term, it has also risen moderately in recent years.
The United States are in 18th place with a score of 27. The ranking is led by Denmark with a value of 7. The sad last place is occupied by Somalia (90 points).

Development of corruption in Belize 2003 - 2008
The causes of corruption lie in part in political and cultural reasons. Ineffective law enforcement may further promote it. It is striking that it is regularly lower in democratically governed countries (form of government in Belize: Parliamentary democracy). Similarly, higher corruption occurs predominantly in low-income countries. In Belize, per capita income is 4,110 US$ annually, which is extremely low by global standards. The above-average cost of living also indicates a comparatively prosperous country.
