Telecommunication in Togo

Compared to the United States, Togo is massively lagging behind in the development of telecommunications. Under the country code +228, there were a total of 6.56 million connections in 2020. Among them were 6.52 million mobile phones, which corresponds to an average of 0.79 per person. In the US, , this figure is 1.1 mobile phones per person.

With about 1,168 webhosts, Togo is below the world's average by population. At the end of 2020, 219 million of these, or about 19 percent, were secured with SSL or comparable encryption.

Development of telephone and internet connections

With an average download speed of 31.84 Mbit/second for fixed-network broadband internet, Togo ranked 102nd in an international comparison. The upload rate of only 4.0 Mbit/second was significantly lower (164th place).
In mobile internet, i.e. on tablets and smartphones, Togo comes 55th with a download speed of 33.34 Mbit/second. The upload speed of around 8 Mbit was only enough for 102nd place.
