Development of inflation rates in Mozambique

The inflation rate in Mozambique moved over the past years between 1.5% and 63.2%. For 2016, an inflation rate of 10.0% was calculated.

During the observation period from 1988 to 2016, the average inflation rate was 20.9% per year. Overall, the price increase was 14,812.47 %. An item that cost 100 Metical in 1987 was 2016 so charged 14,912.47 Metical.

In only a very few countries, the price increase is that high. The rate of 63.2% in 1994 means, that compared to the previous year all prices have been increased by an average of 63.2%. In comparison to other countries, the drastic price increases are no longer on average. Usually this is a sign of political and economic turmoil.
