The timezone EET in Libya

Timezones are always computed by their difference to UTC, the "Universal Time Coordinated". In Libya exists only a single tonezone at UTC+2. E.g. New York is currently at UTC-4 in Eastern Time, so the time difference between NY and Libya is 6 hours.

Libya has no time difference between summer and winter. A daylight saving time doesn't exist.

Libya has an east-west extension of 15.6 degrees of longitude. Given the country's location in Northern Africa, this corresponds to about 1500 kilometers. At this extension, the sun's course is noticeable at different positions in the country, but it still turns out to be moderate. The position of the sun in the west of the country differs from that in the east by about 62 minutes. This means the sun rises and sets 62 minutes later in the west than in the east.

The Eastern European Time also applies in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, West Bank, Greece, Romania, Moldova, Finland, in parts of Russia, in parts of Ukraine, in Åland, Latvia, Bulgaria, Estonia and in Lithuania.

No more daylight saving time in Libya

Due to the sun's orbit around the equator, the days are longer in summer (June to September in the northern hemisphere). Countries that switch to daylight saving time in the summer months align the daylight phase with the human rhythm. Unused bright morning hours are thus shifted into the evening (more information on daylight saving time here).

Due to the relative proximity to the equator, the impact in Libya is not particularly large. Tripoli is only 3,700 km from the equator. A day in midsummer would then not last from 05:58 to 20:20, but from 06:58 to 21:20. The effect would be quite noticeable in the evening, but the sun rising later in the morning falls at a time when many people are already awake. Thus, in 2013, the decision was made to finally abandon daylight saving time in Libya.
