Development of inflation rates in Liberia
The inflation rate for consumer prices in Liberia moved over the past 16 years between 6.8% and 23.6%. For 2018, an inflation rate of 23.6% was calculated.
During the observation period from 2002 to 2018, the
average inflation rate was 11.2% per year. Overall, the price increase was 443.84 %. An item that cost 100 Dollar in 2002 was so charged 543.84 Dollar in the beginning of 2019.
In only a very few countries, the price increase is that high. The rate of 23.6% in 2018 means, that compared to the previous year all prices have been increased by an average of 23.6%. In comparison to other countries, the drastic price increases are no longer on average. Usually this is a sign of political and economic turmoil.
