2,643 people from Ghana fled in 2021 and applied for asylum in other countries, according to UNHCR data. This corresponds to approximately 0.008% of all residents. The most common destination countries have been Italy, Germany and Mexico. Overall, 91 percent of the asylum applications have been rejected. The most successful have been the refugees in Australia and Algeria.A total of 119 people fled to the United States from Ghana. With 5 positive decisions, 13.89 percent of all new applications have been accepted. Another 31 applications were rejected, and no decisions were made on those remaining in 2021.
