Development of inflation rates in the Gambia
The inflation rate for consumer prices in the Gambia moved over the past 39 years between 0.8% and 56.6%. For 2018, an inflation rate of 6.5% was calculated.
During the observation period from 1979 to 2018, the average inflation rate was 9.1%
per year. Overall, the price increase was 2,577.15 %. An item that cost 100 Dalasi in 1979 was so charged 2,677.15 Dalasi in the beginning of 2019.
In only a very few countries, the price increase is that high. The rate of 56.6% in 1986 means, that compared to the previous year all prices have been increased by an average of 56.6%. In comparison to other countries, the drastic price increases are no longer on average. Usually this is a sign of political and economic turmoil.Back to overview: Gambia
