Development of inflation rates in the Gambia

The inflation rate in the Gambia moved over the past years between 0.8% and 56.6%. For 2016, an inflation rate of 7.2% was calculated.

During the observation period from 1980 to 2016, the average inflation rate was 9.3% per year. Overall, the price increase was 2,091.84 %. An item that cost 100 Dalasi in 1979 was 2016 so charged 2,191.84 Dalasi.

In only a very few countries, the price increase is that high. The rate of 56.6% in 1986 means, that compared to the previous year all prices have been increased by an average of 56.6%. In comparison to other countries, the drastic price increases are no longer on average. Usually this is a sign of political and economic turmoil.
