The most destination countries hereof have been Germany, Italy and Sudan. A total of only 9 percent of asylum applications have been rejected. The most successful have been the refugees in Sudan and in Denmark.

A total of 18,854 people from Eritrea fled to Germany. With a total of 16,568 positive decisions 99.19 percent of all applications have been accepted.

National migrant stock from 1980 to 2015

In 2015 a total of 15,941 migrants lived in Eritrea. These are all residents who live permanently in the country but were born in another country. The amount includes granted refugees but no asylum seekers. The data are based on the results of censuses, as well as on estimates and projections of the United Nations Population Division.
